Job Description

The Academic Counselor supports students in achieving their educational goals by providing guidance on course selection, academic planning, and career pathways. The counselor also works closely with faculty, parents, and administrative staff to promote student success and retention.

Key Responsibilities:
Provide academic advising and counseling to students on course selection, degree requirements, and academic progress.

Assist students in developing personalized academic plans aligned with their career and educational goals.

Monitor student performance and intervene with support services when academic challenges arise.

Conduct one-on-one and group counseling sessions to address student concerns.

Guide students through the college/university application and scholarship process, where applicable.

Maintain accurate and confidential student records.

Collaborate with faculty and administration to support at-risk students.

Stay up to date with curriculum changes, academic policies, and institutional procedures.

Participate in orientation programs and workshops for incoming students.

Refer students to psychological counseling, tutoring, or other support services as needed.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field (Master’s preferred).

Proven experience in academic advising, counseling, or student support services.

Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.

Familiarity with academic management systems and counseling software is a plus.
